The Chicago Skyline

Last weekend I took a trip out to Chicago to see my girlfriend. She's working out there for the next couple of months, so I thought it would be nice to go visit.  This was my first time in Chicago and I must admit I was very impressed. The culture,  architecture and people are unlike any city I've ever been to before.  The overall vibe was great and the food was incredible; if you ever visit Chicago, make sure to swing by Garrett's for some fresh popcorn.  I recommend getting a mix of cheese and carmel.

Navigating the city is tough and my iPhone quickly became an invaluable tool.  I used Google Maps to find a Metra train station and lookup departure times.  While we were waiting for our train, I took a moment to capture some pics of the station we were in.  It was worn and weathered, but still made for some interesting shots...

The second photo is actually a graffiti covered 2X4. It was one of the vertical support beams of the station dilapidated shelter.  Kind of an odd photo, but a neat perspective none the less.

The train dropped us off at Union Station, the end of the line.  After walking all over downtown, we ventured into Millenium Park.  The Art Institute is adjacent and on Friday's, it's free after 5pm.  Although I had my camera with me, I think taking pictures of art is a little redundant, especially when you're in a museum setting, so I don't have any great pictures from inside.  After we indulged our senses with art, we swang by Ruth Chris for some dinner.  At night, Chicago is a beautiful city.  On our way back to the train station, I snagged a few photos of Chicago's skyline so you could see for yourself.

This is actually one-of-two very cool condo buildings.  They are located in Marina Village; they sit atop a bank on the Chicago river. Below them is a Dick's Last Resort and beneath that is a marina for the tenants.

The first sixteen stories of each building is a parking garage and each place has a bowed-out balcony which offer extraodinary views of the city.

And last but not least, this is my favorite photo from my trip.
